Crochet hook 7.0 mm
Stitch Glossary and Abbreviations:
st. (Stitch), sts. (Stitches), ch. (Chain), rnd. (Round); BLsc (single crochet in the back loop).
Approximate size:
17.3” x 11.8” each
Gauge:
A 4” square made in BLsc with Premium T-Shirt yarn and a 7 mm hook, measures 9 sts x 9 rows.
Execution:
The Placemat uses the tapestry crochet technique; in this technique, work with 2 or more strands in the same round, changing colors according to what the chart specifies. To change colors, pull the last 2 loops off the hook with the new color, and hide the other yarn over the previous round, between the stitches of the new color.
With White yarn, start with 28 ch. + 1 ch. to turn the work (do not count the initial ch. as a st., it’s only to used to go up the rows).
1 - Start in the 2nd ch. from the hook, 28 BLsc.
2 - Start with 1 ch., 28 BLsc
3 - Join the Orange Peel yarn and extend it over the base row, with White yarn start with 1 ch., 8 BLsc, change to Orange Peel yarn, 8 BLsc., change to White yarn, 12 BLsc.
Continue following the chart, working in back-and-forth rows, making the appropriate color changes. Fasten off the yarns.
Make 2 identical pieces.
