Gauge: A 4 inches (10 cm) square in dc. using a 2.0 mm crochet hook = 23 sts. x 10 rows.
Instructions
Transfer the templates onto tracing paper to use as a reference when making the piece. Follow the arrows in the measurement diagram to determine the direction of work.
Step 1: Back part of the shorts: Use a 2.0 mm crochet hook and Glamour yarn in Hydrangea color. Start the piece at the waist, working in back-and-forth rows. Make a foundation chain of 69 ch., then work in fantasy stitch (A) following diagram 1, from R1 to R23. Fasten off and set the piece aside. Front part of the shorts: Work the same as the back part of the shorts. Assembly of the back and front parts of the shorts: Using a tapestry needle and Glamour yarn in Hydrangea color, sew the sides together with running stitches, joining the pieces along 22 cm (8.7 in). Switch back to the 2.0 mm crochet hook, locate the marking in diagram 1 (indicated by the red star), and join the crotch with 1 sl st.
Step 2: Right leg edging: Use a 2.0 mm crochet hook and Glamour yarn in Hydrangea color. Join the yarn at the edge of R23, work in fantasy stitch (B) in circular rounds, following diagram 2 and the repeat stitches from R24 to R29. Left leg edging: Same as the right leg edging.
Step 3: Overall waistband: Use a 2.0 mm crochet hook and Glamour yarn in Hydrangea color. Join the yarn at the foundation chain from Step 1, working in circular rounds. Work in fantasy stitch (C) following diagram 3 and the repeat stitches from R30 to R32.
Step 4: Upper Front Base and Straps: Use a 2.0 mm crochet hook and Glamour yarn in Hydrangea color. Join the yarn on the left side of the front waistband and work in fantasy stitch (D), following diagram 4, from R33 to R50. Then, continue separately for each strap from R51 to R92, following the repeat stitches. Work in back-and-forth rows. Finish the piece by making a row of sc. around the straps, along the sides of the base, and around the waistband. On the right side of each strap, sew a button at the top. Attach the straps to the back waistband of the shorts, following the gray markings on the measurement diagram.
Cord: Make a twisted cord measuring 110 cm (43.3 in). Weave it through the waistband and tie it in a bow at the front.
